Cover Comparison - The Hunger Games

It's been quite a while since we did a Cover Comparison post so I thought it would be fun to start again. :)
Here are the North American and UK covers of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins...

 Which cover do YOU prefer?

  1. I definitely prefer the North American one. Maybe I'm just more used to it? I like elements of the UK one... it looks more tough and gritty, which is appropriate, but I don't like the illustrated characters on them.

  6. I've always preferred the UK covers (the single voice of dissent it seems).

I agree that the US cover is cleaner, but to me the grittiness of the UK covers works and I love the cross-hairs.

  7. I usually prefer the UK covers, but in this case, I like the North American one better. I love the simplicity and the way it uses the iconic Mockingjay image, which makes it a bit more universal than having a character image on the cover. I think North American publishers will probably release new movie tie-in editions next year anyway, with Jennifer Lawrence on the cover.

Plus, not to be nitpicky, but if that's supposed to be Katniss on the UK cover, isn't she supposed to have dark hair? :)

  8. I like the simplicity of the North American cover.

Not too fond of the illustrated person (supposedly Peeta) on the UK one, but apart from that, I don't mind it.

    My verdict: North American

I like the North American cover best, but I love the way the UK cover evokes all the cheesy dystopians of the 80s.
