Review:

The Darkest Kiss is the second book in Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld Series. This novels sees Lucien - Keeper of Death - struggle with his inner demon, and love for Anya, the goddess of anarchy.

What I thoroughly enjoyed in this book were all of the obstacles facing Lucien and Anya. There were a lot more evils to be faced then Maddox and Ashlyn had to go through. Firstly, Lucien is Death - his job entails him to physically leave the earth plain and collect souls. Secondly, he has extreme self confidence issues. Having scarred his face badly when his first love died, Lucien has trouble comprehending Anya's initial attraction to him. Lucien battles what a lot of people feel every day. It was interesting and nice to see a man in the position of vulnerability and the girl secure with her appearance. I love the role reversal and twist on the traditional conventions portrayed in many books and movies.

The plot continues from the first book and we find our favourite Lords of the Underworld on a mission. They are trying to find Pandora's box and get rid of it forever as they battle hunters, Cronus, and their ever growing soul mate finding.

The novel keeps a consistent pace and the plot line never falters from its destined path. I had a slight problem with Paris. Our little demon of promiscuity has a run in with a potential saviour to his sleeping around problem ,but it dies just as soon as it takes off. Since there are many more books and more to come, I'm holding on to my hope that he will find happiness and peace.

I'm really enjoying the Lords of the Underworld by Gena Showalter. Her writing is both fantastic and compelling - it draws you in completely. I'm excited just thinking about her other paranormal romance series as well as her young adult series.

  1. I LOVE this series, I completely agree that her writing is compelling, I get sucked in every time. This wasn't my favorite installment, but I still enjoyed it. I'm dying to read Paris and Torin, but I think we have a while on them. Nice review Ashley!
