Today was an awesome day. I didn't think I would have time to catch Cassie Clare's UStream but the fates had something else in mind and I had perfect timing! I just sat down to my laptop at 4:57 with an hour to spare and quickly logged onto the UStream. There are a couple highlights from this chat:
1. THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS WILL BE A 6 BOOK SERIES! This was Cassie's big announcement and big it is! After City of Fallen Angels is released there will be two more books. The other titles will be City of Lost Souls and City of Heavenly Fire. All of these books will follow the same characters that we know and love, will introduce us to new ones, and will highlight characters that had small parts in the other books. This is incredibly exciting! I can't even describe to you how happy this makes me. I was unsure of how life might be without the Mortal Instruments books but now I don't have to! :) :) :) :)
2. Another fascinating thing that Cassie said was that she would continue to write if her editor didn't take it away from her! This would be lovely. I can imagine if she kept writing and created a million and one scenarios for Clary and Jace! hehe
3. The person that will be featured on the cover of City of Fallen Angels has not been finalized yet! Who do you think it will be?
4. Magnus Bane is a character that Cassie thought of when she was in a nail salon looking at boy band stars in a magazine. She wanted a wizard that was based on an "old soul wise spirit in a JPop party boy." Best description EVER!
5. The runes are based on historical theories about tattooing and the power that some cultures believe they hold! :)
6. Would you be afraid to kill off a main character permanently? To this question Cassie said no. She would be sad though!
7. Cassie says she doesn't get fan reaction to books until she has already published the next book. She pays attention to strong reactions, but there are so many different reactions that it is hard to please everyone. She says that she has to write to the vision that she has.
